HARRISON, N.J. — Charlotte FC struck twice in the opening 12 minutes at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Saturday night to  beat back Red Bull New York and secure a 2-0 win on the road. Pep Biel opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing a cutback from Liel Abada to reach 20 goals and 20 assists in his MLS career, and captain Ashley Westwood added a first-time strike from outside the box five minutes later off a Kerwin Vargas assist. From there, Kristijan Kahlina turned aside a string of chances to keep Charlotte’s lead intact through a sustained New York push. The Red Bulls, fielding Julian Bazan in his first MLS start and debuting Mijahir Jiménez off the bench, controlled long stretches of the match and finished with 23 shots, but but couldn’t convert territory into goals. A stoppage-time double yellow against New York’s Adri Mehmeti left the Red Bulls to finish the match a man down.
